SJ Art Consulting is pleased to announce Notes on the World Around Us, a two person exhibition featuring original drawings by Ingrid Ludt and Sand T Kalloch, at our gallery in downtown Haverhill, MA. The two series of drawings by Ingrid Ludt and Sand T Kalloch tell stories related to physical places and objects, real and in our minds’ eye.

Sand T’s abstract series utilizes wax pastels, graphite, conte and ink to ruminate on the concept of “A Mile Long.” Beginning with more concrete concepts such as length, speed, and time, Sand T’s final drawings lead the viewer to more abstract notions of survival, endurance, and our very existence. The work invites viewers to dive into their own experiences, seeing both recognizable and newer concepts emerge.

Ludt’s ink and pencil drawings capture the essence of physical forms by focusing on their outer edges. Through the use of simplified gestures, she uncovers the intrinsic energy and distinct character of objects such as stones and shells. Her attention to rhythm and line is inspired by a background in dance.

The public is invited to attend an opening reception on Thursday, March 14th, 2024, from 5-8pm. Both artists will be in attendance, and refreshments will be served.

Sand T Kalloch is a contemporary artist known for her reductive abstract work. She maintains a studio in Massachusetts. Her artistic output comes in the forms of mixed media paintings, low relief, and works on paper. A simplifying approach to art-making is the driving force behind her mixed media works. The primary intention is to utilize six basic elements of visual language: dot, line, surface, color, form and light. Sand T holds a Master of Fine Arts from Tufts University and the School of the Museum of Fine Art in Boston. Sand T has been the recipient of numerous awards and grants for her work in the visual arts, as well for her volunteer works in art advocacy and community building. Her exhibition history is extensive with representation in numerous solo and group exhibitions in Australia, Canada, France, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan and the United States. Represented by art dealers in the United States, Canada, Malaysia and Singapore, her work has been shown nationally and internationally in dozens of art fairs. Sand T's artwork resides in public and private art collections worldwide.

SUNSET STORIES

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Artist Ingrid Ludt Explores Nature and Minimalism in Sunset Stories Exhibition

Boston, MA-Bromfield Gallery announces Ingrid Ludt’s upcoming solo exhibition Sunset Stories. This captivating showcase featuring a collection of original paintings and a site-specific installation, promises to be a profound exploration of nature’s beauty and the artist’s journey toward Minimalism. The exhibition will be open from November 3 to 26, 2023, with an opening reception on Friday, November 3 from 6-8:00PM at Bromfield Gallery.

A Deep Connection to Nature and Minimalism
Ludt’s creative journey is firmly rooted in her profound connection to the natural world. Her art is a testament to her deep appreciation for the Earth’s landscape, with a particular focus on the Cape Cod seashore where she lives and works.
As a devoted Minimalist, Ludt directs her artistic efforts to what truly matters to her-the interplay of pared down forms and colors. Her work embodies a distilled essence that encapsulates her artistic vision, allowing viewers to engage with the core emotions and messages conveyed in her art.

The Power of Color and the Essence of Sunset
Central to Ludt’s vision is the integral role that color assumes. Drawing inspiration from the natural world and guided by her in-depth exploration of color theory, she meticulously curates palettes that infuse harmony and vitality into her work.

Sunset Stories takes its inspiration from the universal narrative of a beginning, middle and end, with the sunset serving as a celebration of this truth. Ludt captures the colors, shapes and moods of Cape Cod’s sunsets, with each painting offering a unique interpretaion of the uplifting energy of this special place.

Site-specific Installation: Natural Progression
Ludt’s approach to art is often sequential. Her paintngs are frequently grouped in pairs or a series, forming a loose narratve that complements her screenwritng background. This is partcularly evident in the site-specific installation entitled Natural Progression. This installaEon comprises 20 paintngs arranged in a grid that highlights the progression of time and movement, depicting the transition of a fading sun, using a soft palette of colors.

BEYOND MATTER

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Ingrid Ludt to Exhibit Playful Paintings Drawn from Nature in Beyond Matter, a Solo Exhibition at Bromfield Gallery

Boston, MA–Beyond Matter, Ingrid Ludt’s first solo exhibition in Boston, consists of paintings that abstract bits and pieces of the universe to liberate them from the burden of representation. Colors and forms drawn from nature are transformed into play pieces in elaborate studio games. The exhibition will be open from September 1 to 26, 2021, with an opening reception on Friday, September 3 from 6-8:30 pm at Bromfield Gallery.

The compositions are drawn from pieces of bark, shell, and other natural ephemera and then carefully arranged to respond to the rectangle of the canvas. The patterns and geometries of nature’s fragments are pared down and rendered on the canvas. In some cases, the universe can be found within a single fragment; in others, the pieces are assembled in order to unlock some kind of secret.

The colors, on the other hand, are chosen through randomness and games: picking among crumpled swatches, assigning colors to dice, and drawing Tarot cards. Ludt is inspired by the irreverent anarchism of the Dadaists in the early 20th Century, who worked amid war and disease not unlike the 21st Century. Ludt’s response, like the Dadaists before her, is to bring playfulness and chance to the foreground. The lightness and pleasure of the process is palpable in the paintings, where the shapes radiate the colors that they’ve been assigned.

This is the serious business of play: to expel the inner critic, invigorate an artistic practice, counteract the harsh realities of the day, and connect with the universe. It is this act of discovery, by both Ludt and the viewer through the paintings, that connects us to something larger, Beyond Matter.
